A one-day trip from Guwahati to Cherrapunji via Shillong is an ambitious but doable journey if you start early (ideally by 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM). The total driving time is approximately 4.5 to 5 hours one way, covering about 150 km. 

One-Day Itinerary (Guwahati-Shillong-Cherrapunji)

• 05:00 AM – 06:00 AM: Depart Guwahati
  • Start early to beat city traffic and maximize daylight. 
• 08:30 AM – 09:30 AM: Breakfast at Umiam Lake (Barapani)
  • Stop at the viewpoint for this massive, scenic reservoir. It is a perfect spot for photos and a quick breakfast. 
• 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Quick Stop in Shillong (Optional)
  • Elephant Falls: A brief visit to this three-tiered waterfall on the outskirts of Shillong.
  • Shillong Peak: Offers a panoramic view of the entire city. 
• 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Mawkdok Dympep Valley
  • Enjoy the breathtaking valley views. You can try Zip Lining here if you have 20–30 minutes to spare. 
• 01:00 PM – 02:00 PM: Lunch in Cherrapunji (Sohra)
  • Grab a meal at local spots like Orange Roots or other restaurants in Sohra.
• 02:00 PM – 04:30 PM: Cherrapunji Sightseeing
  • Nohkalikai Falls: India's tallest plunge waterfall.
  • Seven Sister Falls: A scenic segmented waterfall (best viewed during or just after monsoon).
  • Mawsmai Cave: A well-lit, easy-to-walk limestone cave.
  • Eco Park: Offers views of the "Green Canyons" of Sohra and the plains of Bangladesh. 
• 04:30 PM – 05:00 PM: Start Return Journey
  • Begin the drive back to Guwahati. 
• 09:00 PM – 10:00 PM: Arrive in Guwahati
  • Expect to reach back by late evening, depending on traffic in Shillong and Guwahati.
